Antique Savonarola Chair
Antique Savonarola Chair
The Savonarola Chair, also know as a "scissor" or "X" chair, first became popular in the Renaissance period, where it was favored by Roman generals who appreciated its folding design and portability for use on long campaigns. Their popularity returned during the Renaissance Revival (1890-1930), which is when this chair was most likely crafted.
The seat is carved with a crest and the back is heavily carved with a matching crest, flanked by two mystical creatures. The arms are flat and carved on three sides with a geometric design and ending with a round ball. A traditional scarf ring is found on the right arm.
